5 New Skills Needed to be Employable Today! 3.7 Million Job Openings in America

According to U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics in July of 2013 there were 3.7 Million Job Openings. There were 12.5 Million Unemployed. So where is the disconnect? I believe its because companies have a need for a new type of worker-skill set. No longer can you graduate from high school (and most non technical college degrees) and expect to get a high paying job where the employer trains you on the job, for instance manufacturing jobs. In order to get a higher paying job you need to have,  in addition to basic computer and Microsoft programs, these 5 Skills:

  1. Web Programming/HTML
  2. Mobile Apps Programming
  3. Social Media Communication and Marketing
  4. Interpersonal cCmmunications Skills
  5. Critical-Creative Thinking.
You need to be able to walk in and learn quickly your job without much assistance from your employer-manager.

So here's the rub. Those over 45 who have been laid off during the recession - most don't have this new skill set because they didn't have to in the jobs of the past and being over 45 there is age discrimination - companies don't want to hire older people who will raise their insurance rates.

On the other end of the age spectrum - our education-public schools are not training people for this new skill set. They need to increase the education in Math & English including writing for the Internet (like Blogging& Tweeting) get rid of most History, Geography, Extra Curricular - and add in Web Programming, Internet-Cloud Technology, Social Media Communications, Mobile Apps Programming, Creativity and Thinking Outside the Box and Interpersonal Communications.

In the 1990's schools did add into their curriculum Basic Keyboarding and  Microsoft Programs - Word, Excel & PowerPoint. Most Generation Y know these programs - many Baby Boomers do not. But that's not enough now. They need all the other technology communication tools needed as mentioned above.

But don't wait for our Government Sponsored Education system to do this for you or your children. The good news is that there are so many free programs online to learn all these skills - just takes a plan and discipline to do the independent study. If I had a child in High School, I would HomeSchool! My child would know by the time they graduated at 17 or 18 how to program a mobile app, run all Social Media Communications & Marketing, know HTML+, put up a fairly sophisticated web site, run a solid SEO (Search Engine Optimization), conduct high level internet research, write a blog, score high marks in interpersonal communications and critical-creative thinking skills. I would also take him or her to museums and teach art, culture, history, geography and government.

The good news is that anybody reading this has the capability to become the New Worker that employers are looking for to fulfill a lot of these 3.7 million unfilled jobs.

The Book E-Squared Rearranges My Molecules - Phoenix Rising

I recently read the book E-Squared by Pamela Grout. Its a practical, 9 experiments book on Qauntum Physics and using its understanding of energy to get what you want in life. I have been a student of Law of Attraction, Course In Miracles and Creating Your Own Destiny for 25 years. This book was a great take it to the next level of practice.

I did almost all the experiments in the book - most of them are something like this "ask specifically what you want and the time frame you want it in" her suggestion was 48 Hours. So I asked, but most of the experiments it didn't show up in the 48 hours. But started to show up a week later. My molecules are definitely transforming and I am definitely creating new manisfestations of my hearts desire.

In 1998, I started a business called Knight Vision in Wichita, KS (my home town). I started it after reading a variety of books on Do What You Love the Money Will Follow themes. I rented a cool office and started putting the word out about my counseling/coaching services. I did a 1x a month "Follow Your Dreams Saturday Workshop" and a weekly Dream Builders Support Group. Unfortunately, I couldn't make enough money and had to go get jobs to support myself. In the meantime the relationship I was in was not supporting my Knight Vision. We eventually broke up, I moved back to KC and began my Career as a Professional Speaker & Trainer with National Seminars.

I started using my "manifesting my life" skills again as I was building my "Shenanigans" Brand of Speaking & Training when I was on the road working for National Seminars. Shenanigans was corporate training to help companies to lighten up, be more creative and encourage a work culture of fun. I wasn't able to make a success of this business either. Again for a variety of reasons: 1) I met my now husband and started spending most of my free time with him 2) Shenanigans programs were missing the mark of where I was hoping to have impact - most of the people I trained were either disempowered to go back to their workplace and implement my strategies or the company was very far from allowing or encouraging their employees to do the things to help them to be more creative. I essentially became an Entertainment Speaker-Trainer to give people some fun, break and some take aways. It just wasn't enough impact for me.

At the same time I was getting extremely burned out from all the road warrior-travel I was doing for National, 5 days, 5 different cities usually 2-3 hour drives every night, with 12-14 hour work days and not getting paid well. I loved training, hated the travel and being away from home. I was really craving a different lifestyle, a community, a garden, hobbies, dogs, husband that traveling would not allow.

So I resigned from both National & Shenanigans in 2008 and began reluctantly started a career as a Realtor. My husband was a part-time Realtor as a Retirement Vocation (wasn't going to retire for 8 years though - he's 1 year from retiring now). Even though I have made the best of a Real Estate Career over the last 5 years during the worst housing market ever, my heart just isn't in it. Its not my passion, love, heart's desire. All the things I had taught with Knight Vision back in 1998.

So here I am full circle - raising from the ashes Knight Vision: Coaching Consulting Training for people to Follow Their Heart's Desire for their Vocation/Career and to help Companies to encourage their employees to follow their dreams.  This Old Dream Reinvented came as I was doing the E-Squared experiments.

I have always believed that you can do anything you want with the right tools - mostly mindset, beliefs, etc...

The first step is to ask yourself every day until you feel you have truly arrived at your soul's/heart's desire, gift, purpose "If I could do anything I wanted, $ wasn't an issue and I was guaranteed success - what would I do?" Typically the first few times you actually answer that question - you come up with a compromised desire - something that seems more reasonable, doable. But the key to manifesting is to really be truthful and find your true passion-calling.

E-Squared got me to get back to this question for myself. The answer, coach, counsel, train, consult to help people find their calling-purpose-heart's desire and to help companies do the same thing. So it truly is full circle. It's a bit intimidating - to make another major career shift from Real Estate back to Coaching but I know I will be happier and more fulfilled.

I will be Blogging here about the next steps after you have asked the question and got the right answer - not the compromised answer.

1. Find Your Calling:
2. Spend 30 Days writing about it in a journal.
3. Learn, relearn, go deeper, get another book, join a support group on Law of Attraction, Quantum Physics - basically you get what you ask for.
4. Set up your Strategy-Road Map-Goals
5. Join a Support Group
6. Understand and be prepared for the obstacles.

Lost Child Needed Mentor to Guide Her Highly Creative Lost Child

I am a #lostchild! I am insanely creative with a insatiable drive to "Do It My Way"! At times I am so passionate with my creative ideas that I win a lot people over to join with me in my adventures to soon end in chaos or disappointment.

I have been putting the puzzle pieces together of my strange life and know now what could have helped me to avoid such chaos and disappointment. A mentor! The problem is I didn't know I needed a mentor or that that was a way to learn and grow and get better as a person.

I am a lost child because I didn't grow up with a mother, my father and stepmother were not very interested in my development - just keeping me safe, fed and some love which I am grateful for. But without parental guidance to clue me in on some simple ways to excel in life - I have had way too many trial and errors that could have been prevented with adult guidance. I am also a lost child because I am madly determined to do it my way, to do it differently-creatively for recognition, which is also a result of being a lost child.

Looking back on my life, if somebody at some point could have said to me - you need a mentor - my life would be 180 degrees different! There were many possibilities for mentors - but it never occurred to me to ask them to pay that role.

My sixth grade teacher Mrs. Baker who I connected with in our Social Studies section and she with me could have been a mentor. She really liked me, an important criteria for being a mentor. Believe me most teachers didn't like me. I was a pain in the butt! If a teacher was overly concerned about rules and couldn't be a human being and treat us kids as people - I was very tough on them. Ouch. I am truly sorry for this now and would love the opportunity to tell each and every one of them I am sorry.

There were a few other teachers who I felt like liked me in High School, but again I didn't ask them to help me and they didn't offer either. It had to be very obvious to them that I was a Lost Girl! Lost Girls with loads of talent, passion, drive and creativity should be mentored - guided when it is noticed. All lost children need this  mentoring and guidance.

In college there were a few professors who I think liked me but again a miss on the mentoring opportunity.

The one that I think really got away that would have been a fabulous mentor, Margalee Wright, Mayor of Wichita who I became friends with while attending Unity Church in Wichita. She was an amazing woman who really liked me! I am so sad now that I didn't know to ask for her mentorship - what a loss!

I have made so many preventable mistakes that would probably not have happened if I had a mentor. My latest one is starting the organization Emerald City KC without going through all the "Best Practices" when starting a Not For Profit - lots of chaos happens. I was leading this project, but it has been more like Anarchy. I should have put together a Board of Directors first and worked out a plan together of fundraising, networking, how to introduce the project, how to bring on volunteers and treat them well.

We started with a Barnraising on March 28, 2011 with 156 people in attendance after doing some great Social Media Marketing. This all happened before a Directing Team or Board of Directors was in place and we continued to meet and try to figure out how we were going to accomplish our goals with anybody and everybody who showed up to the weekly meetings - CHAOS! I have certainly learned what to do better in the future. But an opportunity has been lost. If only this lost child had a Mentor.

If you are a lost child (you come in many forms) find yourself a mentor and ask them to mentor you. If you know of a lost child guide them to find a mentor. It can make a huge difference.

I am starting my research on this topic so I can write a book on it and give talks. Let me know if you are a lost child or know of a lost child so I can interview and learn more.
